— Community Action & Policy Engagement —

ALCCA is committed to protecting the rights and safety of the Jewish community through proactive engagement with government, institutions, and the public. Our initiatives focus on challenging antisemitism, promoting institutional accountability, and supporting those impacted by hate. Through policy recommendations, public consultations, and community mobilization, we ensure the voices of Jewish Canadians and our allies are heard and drive meaningful change.

Public Engagement & Government Relations

ALCCA actively participates in consultations at all levels of government to confront antisemitism and hate. We represent the Jewish community by providing expert analysis and informed perspectives on policy and legal decisions.

In May and June 2024, ALCCA members presented to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights, delivering oral and written testimony on the alarming rise of antisemitic activity on university campuses and within other institutions across Canada.

Read the House of Commons submissions and written submissions.

ALCCA has been actively involved in ensuring community perspectives and expertise were heard by the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs in its work on antisemitism.

These hearings were part of a broader set of public submissions and institutional engagements ALCCA has made in 2024-2025, including:

Building on our national-level testimony, ALCCA continues to lead and support a wide range of initiatives to strengthen community resilience, influence policy, and counter antisemitism across Canada.

  • Consultations on Government Policies: Engaging with lawmakers and public officials to improve legislation and policies pertaining to hate activities, enhance law enforcement responses, and ensure institutional accountability.

  • Campus & Community Engagement: Through collaboration with and between our member organizations, supporting Jewish students, faculty, and parents in addressing antisemitic incidents, including BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) motions, and promoting institutional neutrality, academic freedom, and research integrity.

  • Public Forums and Reports: Contributing to public discourse through opinion pieces, reports, detailed legal analysis and research that counter antisemitic narratives.

Education & Awareness

Education is central to ALCCA’s mission. Directly and through our member organizations, we are committed to equipping individuals and communities with the tools and knowledge needed to confront antisemitism and misinformation. Our educational work includes:

  • Workshops and Training: Delivering sessions for students, educators, community members, and law enforcement on recognizing and responding to antisemitism and other forms of hate.

  • Resource Development: Creating practical guides, toolkits, and reports to help individuals and organizations identify and counter antisemitism.

  • Community Discussions: Facilitating respectful dialogues and forums that foster mutual understanding and critical thinking.

  • Media and Content Creation: Producing fact-based digital content that challenges harmful narratives and amplifies voices standing against hate.

Policy & Legal Initiatives

Through collaboration with legal experts, community leaders, and national organizations, ALCCA works to influence policy and drive structural change. Current initiatives include:

  • National Campaigns: Leading and supporting coordinated campaigns to raise awareness of antisemitism and propose policy, legislative and enforcement improvements.

  • Policy Recommendations: Providing legal insights and strategic guidance to help shape institutional and government-level decisions.

  • Task Force Leadership: Chairing a national task force addressing antisemitism on specific university campuses and working alongside member organizations.

  • Coordinated Action: Bringing together member organizations to respond to antisemitic incidents with unified messaging and strategic action.

Support for Jewish Students and Families

ALCCA and its member organizations provide direct support to students and families affected by antisemitism in educational institutions across Canada. This includes:

  • Address Campus Incidents: Collaborating with multiple organizations to challenge BDS motions and discriminatory practices.

  • Promote Academic Integrity: Encouraging institutional policies that protect academic freedom, institutional neutrality and research integrity, in part, through resisting motions to boycott academic and research partnerships with Israeli institutions, scholars and researchers.

  • Offer Legal Support: Connecting individuals with resources and legal professionals when antisemitism escalates to criminal behaviour.

  • Community Engagement: Actively listening to Jewish communities to understand their needs and empowering them to get involved in solutions.

Collective Action for Greater Impact

ALCCA collaborates with 60+ member organizations to confront antisemitism and build a more inclusive society. By working together, we elevate our collective voice and drive lasting change.
