ALCCA Senior Criminal Litigation Counsel Rochelle Direnfeld joined Toronto Today to explain why recent protests at Bathurst and Sheppard, and marches into nearby Jewish neighbourhoods, do meet the criminal threshold for criminal intimidation and unlawful assembly. She pointed to protesters cosplaying Hamas terrorists, carrying Hamas flags, and confronting residents as clear examples.

Rochelle emphasized that the Criminal Code already provides tools to address this conduct – including unlawful assembly, intimidation, mischief interfering with lawful enjoyment of property, and causing a disturbance – yet they are not being used.

She noted that ALCCA has been training police and prosecutors across the country on these very tools and encouraged Toronto Police to seek stronger legal guidance.
