Following reports of antisemitic propaganda displayed at a demonstration near Bathurst and Sheppard, ALCCA Senior Criminal Counsel Rochelle Direnfeld joined Deb Hutton on Newstalk 1010 to discuss the legal implications and broader concerns. Direnfeld explained that existing Criminal Code provisions – including public incitement of hatred – could have been applied without requiring Attorney General consent, raising serious questions about enforcement.
She emphasized that the issue is not a lack of laws, but a failure to apply them consistently, alongside gaps in training and understanding of contemporary manifestations of antisemitism.
